Donald J. Trump has pulled the plug on Vice President Kamala Harris’s Secret Service protection, effective this coming Monday according to CNN. Normally, former vice presidents enjoy six months of protection, but under President Biden, an extension was granted—an extension now abruptly rescinded by Trump’s new order.
Harris’s senior adviser Kirsten Allen issued a diplomatic statement thanking the Secret Service for their “professionalism and dedication,” but the White House has stayed silent on the matter. The Secret Service itself remains mum as questions swirl.
This all happens just as Harris prepares for her upcoming nationwide tour to promote her forthcoming book, “107 Days,” which lands on September 23. The memoir promises to give readers an inside look at her historic presidential campaign, revealing personal struggles, political battles, and her visions for America’s future. Harris described the book as a candid reflection on “the pain and hope that fueled one of the most noteworthy campaigns in recent memory.” The tour will be a chance for Harris to remind the world of her resilience and leadership.
This is not the first time Trump has pulled back on protection for high-profile figures. Since taking office, he’s revoked Secret Service protection from several key players, including John Bolton, Mike Pompeo, and Brian Hook, despite ongoing threats from abroad. Earlier this year, he also ended protection for Hunter and Ashley Biden, even though President Biden’s own executive order extended safeguards for them.
Trump wants to end his term as the greatest president America has elected. That will be a stretch but he's certainly on track to walk away with the title of pettiest POTUS.
