Is Trump the Most Petty Man in America? His Mother's Day Greeting Suggests So

Former President Donald Trump did it again on Sunday—and by do it again, we mean "use social media to talk s**t about his enemies on a day usually reserved for Hallmark-style greetings."

The ranty Mother's Day post started with the traditional "Happy Mother's Day." Then it took a wild turn.

"Happy Mother’s Day to ALL, in particular the Mothers, Wives and Lovers of the Radical Left Fascists, Marxists, and Communists who are doing everything within their power to destroy and obliterate our once great Country. Please make these complete Lunatics and Maniacs Kinder, Gentler, Softer and, most importantly, Smarter, so that we can, quickly, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!"

This would seem completely unhinged, using a day intended to love on moms to smite one's enemies. But it's part of a proud Trumpian tradition of using national holidays to release poison against his political foes. It doesn't matter if it's Christmas or Easter.

As several outlets noticed, Trump did not take the occasion of the holiday to say nice words about Melania Trump, the mother of his own actual child Barron. It was also a stark contrast, as Newsweek reported, from the message Republican rival Ron DeSantis put out the same day.

A little corny, sure, but not something that, say, could come up in a future hearing to determine one's mental state going into a major national election.
