Marvel’s Black Panther is getting a new four-episode animated miniseries on Disney+ that explores the rich history of Wakanda, its Black Panthers and ancillary warriors this Friday (August 1).
Eyes of Wakanda will tell the story of the Hatut Zaraze warriors as they try to retrieve Vibranium artifacts from the enemies of Wakanda. There's time traveling happening as attempted pillaging of Vibranium has been going on for centuries.
Ryan Coogler is an executive producer for the miniseries. The Sinners architect also EPd the criminally slept on Ironheart starring Dominique Thorne. Todd Harris, the storyboard artist on the two Black Panther films, is handling directing duties.
"My goal for the whole show was to do the thing that a movie has trouble doing, which is making the world bigger," Harris told EW. "It is a nation with multiple zip codes. It was mostly just expanding the backdrop of the world that Ryan was able to establish, with just a little bit more time and a few more opportunities at the watering hole."
While Iron Fist's two-season Netflix series was critically panned, the martial arts character debuts here as a woman, voiced by actor Jona Xiao.
Voicing this short run are Winnie Harlow, Cress Williams, Patricia Belcher, Larry Herron and Adam Gold. The cast also includes Lynn Whitfield, Jacques Colimon, Jona Xiao, Isaac Robinson-Smith, Gary Anthony Williams, Zeke Alton, Steve Toussaint and Anika Noni Rose.
