Michael B. Jordan Wins Academy Award for Best Actor at the Oscars

Ryan Coogler, Autumn Durald Arkapaw, and Ludwig Göransson also won for thier work on the film.

Micheal B. Jordan became the sixth Black man to win Best Actor at the Academy Awards on Sunday. The New Jersey native delivered a performance for the ages as twin brothers Elijah "Smoke" and Elias "Stack" Moore. Up against formidable performances from Leonardo DiCaprio and Timothee Chalamet, Jordan's portrayal of two main characters stood out in the end.

"I stand here because of the people who came before me," said Jordan in his acceptance speech. "To be amongst those giants, amongst those greats, amongst my ancestors, amongst my guys, thank you everybody in this room and everybody at home for supporting me over my career."

Previous Black Best Actor winners were Sideny Pottier, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Forrest Whittaker, and Will Smith.

Jordan wasn't the only members of Sinners crew and cast taking home the coveted Golden statue. Film writer and director Ryan Coogler won a statue for Best Original Screenplay.  Autumn Durald Arkapaw won Best Cinematography, becoming the first woman to win in that Oscars category (She thanked the women in attendance and asked all to stand up and take a bow during her acceptance speech.) And Ludwig Göransson took home his third Oscar for Best Original Score.

Jordan, who celebrated his win by going to In and Out Burger, has plenty on the horizons. The New Jersey native is directing and starring in The Thomas Crown Affair, slated for release in 2027. He has also been tied to I Am Legend 2 and a Miami Vice reboot.

Jordan took home the same hardware at the Actors Awards, which many speculated made him the favorite to win the Oscars trophy.
